*Looking and analysing music videos of different genres- from this we were able to recognize the core conventions of music videos of certain genres and how they differ from others.
*Annotating lyrics to songs and planning how we would use them in a music video if we were making one for that particular song.
*Learning about surrealism techniques and watching the film 'Un chien andalou' to gain knowledge of how it works and finding techniques that were able to incorporate into our own music videos.
*From our early research we learnt many things about the typical conventions of a music video. For example, all videos feature either a strong performance element, a strong narrative element or both. We noticed that it was mainly rock/indie bands that centered their video around mainly a performance element.
Our influences:
When planning our own music video, we were inspired by many of the music videos that we had watched as a class. For example, 'It's oh so quiet' by Björk. In this video the singer has many random and surreal things popping up as she walks along. She has lots of different people coming and joining her as she walks. We took the idea of the brighteley coloured umbrellas that she uses to dance with.

This is a shot from the video where the girls dance with umbrellas.
Another artist that were influenced by was Amy Macdonald. We looked at some of her music videos including 'Mr Rock and Roll' and 'Youth of today'. We liked the idea of having a female singer that had an alternative style of music. When we deciding what song to do make a video for, we kept in my mind this style of music.
